Makin' Tracks
This is a short article on the Chain Gang project; it appeared in the same issue of CUT that came with a free four-track EP of L&M songs.
CUT, October, 1997
Hipsway, Hue And Cry, Love And Money, Clare Grogan and the McCluskey
Brothers are amongst the many Scottish acts who appear as The Chain Gang on
the single "Makin' Tracks" (on Supreme International Editions) which
appears this month. Originally recorded to raise money for the Caterpillar
Workers' occupation at their factory in Uddingston, Lanarkshire until their
sit-in ended, it is now for the benefit of War On Want and Children In
Need. The record also features a "rap" by comedian Bing Hitler. Other
performers include Crack, The Fruits of Passion, His Latest Flame, Jesse
Rae and the Thistles, Katie Murphy, Rikki Peebles, Robert Hodgens, The
Bathers, The Big Dish and The Pastels.
There will be an exhibition of work by various Caterpillar workers at the
Third Eye Centre, Glasgow until October 10, as well as exhibits from Andy
McKinnon and Glasgow Film and Video Workshop. A special launch party for
the record is being held at The Sub Club, Glasgow on October 1 where it is
hoped that many of the participating stars will attend. All proceeds go to
the cause.
